Stratford

A theatre town on a river — heritage streets, the Avon at golden hour, and the calmest walk-to-ceremony we film outside of Yorkville.

Stratford is the smallest wedding destination in this guide and, for the right couple, the most rewarding. The city is built around the Festival: hotels are used to hosting weekend guests, restaurants staff for evening service, and the walking scale means an entire wedding can happen inside four blocks.

The Avon River, with its swans, is more atmospheric than any Ontario photo-op we know outside of Muskoka.

  • November: quietly beautiful — cheaper, empty, and the light is soft for portraits.

    Confirm your date does not clash with a Festival premiere weekend — restaurants and hotels are otherwise unbookable.

    Stratford is two hours from Toronto. A single Friday-night shuttle from Union Station simplifies transport for the entire guest list.

Marrying in Stratford — honest answers

Is Stratford practical for out-of-town guests?+
Yes, if they are willing to make the drive or take VIA Rail from Toronto. Once inside the town, no one needs a car.
What size of wedding suits Stratford?+
60–150 guests is the sweet spot. Larger weddings outgrow the walkable core; smaller weddings can rent an entire boutique hotel for the weekend.
